SHS Best in Show Student Art

The Shepherd Independent School District's Art Department, led by Mrs. Jasmine Vaughan, is making waves as they recently participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Contest. With a total of 15 pieces of artwork submitted, Shepherd ISD students not only walked away with awards but left a lasting impression on the art community.

This year's competition saw five talented Shepherd ISD students honored with awards, including the prestigious Gold Medal and Best of Show. The school's art department has truly shown its dedication to nurturing artistic talent and pushing the boundaries of creativity.

For over half a century, the School Art Contest has been a driving force behind encouraging students and schools to think outside the box when it comes to artistic expression. This program offers students from Pre-K through 12th grade the invaluable opportunity to participate in district art shows, earn scholarships, attend enriching summer workshops, and even have their artwork displayed in the coveted Hayloft Gallery during the Houston Rodeo.

One of the program's highlights is the chance for schools to receive the highly sought-after Super Show award, which recognizes outstanding participation and dedication to the arts. Shepherd ISD Art Department's commitment to artistic excellence is a testament to their passion for nurturing young talent.

The School Art Program doesn't limit its reach to a single school district. Currently, it supports approximately 130 different school districts in the Houston area, including private and parochial schools. This widespread support ensures that young artists from various backgrounds and communities have the opportunity to showcase their creativity on a grand stage.

Each year, the Houston Rodeo receives thousands of entries from talented young Texans who are eager to display their artistic prowess. The competition is fierce, but Shepherd ISD's remarkable performance this year is a testament to their dedication and passion for the arts.

Principal Danielle McCabe expressed pride in Shepherd ISD's Art Department, saying, "Our students have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication to their craft. We are proud of their achievements and will continue to support and nurture their artistic endeavors."

The Shepherd ISD Art Department's success at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Contest serves as an inspiration to students and educators alike. It showcases the boundless creativity that can be achieved through dedication and hard work. As the department continues to foster artistic talent and push the limits of creativity, we can only anticipate even greater success in the years to come.
