Letter from the Superintendent
Welcome to the 2007 – 2008 school year, which will be known as the year Shepherd ISD embarked on a journey of rebuilding and continued high expectations. There are so many programs that will be continued, and new ones implemented, that reflect our District philosophy of “Whatever it takes”. One of the new projects implemented this year is the CSCOPE Curriculum program. This program provides a guaranteed and viable curriculum that is aligned both vertically and horizontally. This will help us to provide a smooth transition for our students as they move from grade to grade. It will also mean that every student in a specific grade will receive the same instructional information, regardless of who they have as a teacher. As one long-time Shepherd teacher said to me, “This is big; this is the first time that we have had a curriculum that will meet everyone’s needs, students and teachers alike.”
Another program in its second year of operation, and seems to be catching more and more attention, is our computer-based eSembler program. This program will allow you as a parent to gain access to your child’s grades, assignments, attendance and associated classroom information. Since it is web-based, you can use it anywhere that you have access to the internet. Contact the administration office for information on how to sign-up for this service.
Of course our construction program will begin during this school year. Be sure to check the District web-site for updates and pictures showing the status of this exciting project.
I am fortunate to have such a fine staff who realizes the importance of teamwork as well as individual responsibility. Shepherd ISD was recently recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) awarding us a Superior Rating in the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). This recognition lets us know that we are doing an outstanding job of managing our resources.
I encourage all parents and patrons to partner with Shepherd ISD by being a positive influence on all of our children as we promote healthy habits both physically and academically.
“Look for Things to Be GREAT in 07-08”
Thank you for the honor of serving as Superintendent of Shepherd ISD.
